Ali Abbas Zafar: Aditya Chopra wanted GUNDAY to be a biggie

  1. For Aditya Chopra, GUNDAY is a major biggie by all means. It is understandable by all means, courtesy Ranveer Singh's 100 crore success GOLIYON KI RAASLEELA RAM-LEELA, Priyanka Chopra enjoying a huge biggie in the form of KRRISH 3, Arjun Kapoor being one of the most promising actors around and an internationally acclaimed actor like Irrfan Khan.

However this is in today's time whereas GUNDAY was conceptualized a year back. Even though Ranveer was just starting off, Adi still had the kind of conviction to make GUNDAY as big as it could be. He never thought of it as a medium budget affair and went all out in putting all resources in place.

No wonder, this was music to ears for second time director Ali Abbas Zafar. For someone who was an Assistant Director before getting his first break as a director with MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN, Ali is changing tracks in terms of genre and going much bigger with GUNDAY.

'Adi was the first person to read the script and the moment he was through with it, he said Chal badi picture banaate hain! He understood that this was a kind of film that needed a scale and infrastructure. I was ecstatic since as a director, you want to make that one film where you want to go all the way. This is one of those films and it has been possible only because Adi had this trust in the script and me. I had to make sure that the biggie speaks for itself. Hopefully that would show on screen as well,' says Ali.

Rest assured, audience won't settle for anything lesser when the film hits the screens exactly a month from now on 14th February.
