Golden Globes 2014 pulled in best TV ratings in 10 years

The 2014 Golden Globes were watched by more people than have watched the ceremony for the past decade, initial viewing figures indicate.
The awards enjoyed their highest TV ratings in 10 years, with 20.9 million Americans tuning in, representing a rise of six per cent on last year’s ratings.
The improved ratings could be attributed in part to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, whose impressive turn as co-hosts of the ceremony last year may have encouraged more people to tune in to see them in action again this year.
The pair’s performance at Sunday’s Globes went down well once again, with their gag-packed opening monologue being well-received, even by many of the celebrities who became the butt of their jokes.

One of the favourite jokes from the evening was at George Clooney’s expense, when Fey described his film Gravity, co-starring Sandra Bullock, as ‘the story of how George Clooney would rather float away into space and die than spend one more minute with a woman his own age.’
The ceremony’s red carpet was hit by disaster before proceedings got underway, as an errant sprinkler drenched it in water – leaving Hollywood stars dragging their dresses around in giant puddles as they arrived at the awards.
