Former Pakistan cricket team’s captain and the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, Imran Khan wed television journalist Reham Khan in a private ceremony at the former’s Bani Gala residence.
The nikkah ceremony came after widespread rumours and speculation regarding the couple as a British newspaper published news of their wedding earlier.
An official announcement from the political leader came much later, the reason for which he said was his desire to talk to his children first.
The former cricketer was first married to Jemima Khan, with whom he has two sons. “When you have children from your first marriage, they are the first priority,” Imran had said at a press conference earlier.
Mufti Saeed conducted the nikkah ceremony for the couple which was followed by a photo session. The ceremony was only attended by close friends and relatives while Imran’s sisters were reportedly not present.
The small ceremony was reportedly due to Imran Khan not wanting to celebrate the wedding in the wake of the Peshawar attack, where over 135 children lost their lives.
News of the wedding led to a lot of activity on social networks where people had varying opinions on the development. Answering his critics, Imran Khan clearly stated, "Marriage is not a crime.”
