PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week 2014: Four-day fashion frenzy draws to a close


The final day of PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week 2014 (PSFW) concluded on Sunday evening, marking the close of four days of a litany of designers, textile houses and high street brands showcasing their seasons finest to a packed hall. 
Other than the routine red carpet and food and beverage enclosures, PFDC treated the guests to a delightful photo booth and a heavy bike showcase, where everyone could pose and get their photos taken.

The evening per routine began with a Voile Show, featuring four distinct brands, which included Five Star Textile Industries, Warda Prints, Nimsay Redefining Style by Nimra Textile and Lakhany Silk Mills.
Five Star Textile Industries kicked off the Voile Show segment with their Spring/Summer 2014 line of collections titled Vogue, Divine, Classic and Larose. A brand known for its diverse appeal and something-for-everyone-approach, presented a unique Eastern collection with sophisticated yet trendy cuts that included straight shirts with V-neckline embroidered on the sides, round ghaira shirts and Chinese necklines to go with Pakistani kameez, with a vibrant colour palette. From casuals to semi-formals, Five Star catered to masses and seemed to go down well with the audience.

Debuting brand Warda Prints displayed their Spring/Summer 2014 collection titled Glamorous Hattie’s, inspired by historical textile patterns, historical walls and floor tiles whose designs originated from the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and later European and Islamic cultures. The exquisite colour palette with varying shades of blue was a treat to the eyes, and their usage of silk with palazzo pants added glamour to the collection. The bright yellows and oranges were outrageous and fun, but at the same time the silk yellow plaid shirts were beautifully done.

Nimsay Redefining Style by Nimra Textile was third in line to showcase their collection titled ‘Flora’, which was inspired by different themes including folk artisan, flora and fauna and graphic monochrome. The brand displayed a wide range of colours, patterns, cuts and hues in its collection, where heavy embroidery and big florals was mostly dominant. Hot pink and neon orange ensembles with contrast cuffs, black shirts with neon pink tights, red and white straight shirts and green and orange kurtis with cigarette pants paraded down the ramp.
Lakhany Silk Mills concluded the Voile Shows segment with a classy, chic, trendy and very colourful collection. The pastel colours, the straights shirts and the intricately embroidered shirt borders were beautiful and very feminine.

The prêt shows were opened by acclaimed Pakistani couturier Rizwan Beyg. Having previously shown a truck art inspired collectio, Beyg had worked closely with the original truck artists to create a line of clothing using ethical practices for his label’s latest collection. Showcasing a colour palette of neon yellow, red, orange, mauve and dark blue with loud rainbow-coloured satin bandanas, Beyg employed concepts of flora and fauna using funky and trendy silhouettes. Key elements for this collection were the reinvention of bell-bottoms, flirty ruffle skirts, tailored jackets, jeans, off-shoulder fun tops, the classic sari and the signature ‘70s wedges. The collection also included bold menswear pieces comprising of jackets, hoodies and jeans.
Up next was Zara Shahjahan who showcased her prêt a porter collection ‘Love Bug’, inspired by jungle florals. The young designer showcased a very modern and rich in style collection, displayed skirts, strapless tops knee-high dresses. Playing with ivory and bold colours, the collection was diverse with a hip and chic appeal to it. The ball gown ivory dresses with rainbow coloured florals were stunning.
The final designer showcase of Act 1 was by debuting fashion label Saira Shakira with a prêt a porter collection titled ‘Cirque du Vanite’ inspired by the circus. Using a colour palette of black, white, gold and red, the designer duo presented a fun collection catering to a younger crowd. With hats and other props, the collection stayed true to its circus-inspired theme. 

The first show of Act 2 was presented by acclaimed designer brand Khaadi Khaas. The Khaadi Khaas collection was inspired by the Baroque era. The sensational brand impressed the audience with yet another hypnotic collection. Khaadia Khaas embraced Spring/Summer with full zeal displayed their floral-based collection with a uniqueness, sophistication, grace and poise only the Khaas brand can deliver. Khaadi’s statement tassel scarves could be seen gracing the collection and it’s a joy to see the brand staying true to its signature style and statement. The ponchos, the gowns and the stunning lace pants and lowers were an instant hit. Hats off to the Khaadi Khaas team!
Up next was Akif Mahmood, showcasing his ‘Matadora’ collection. As the title suggested, Mahmood drew inspiration from Spanish bullfighters and intricately embellished costumes that represented Spanish culture and history. The chic and feminine collection was complimented by the grace and poise of our lanky, exotic models. A black and white heavily sequined jacket was the collections masterpiece.
Day 4’s finale was presented by the King of Couture himself, HSY. In the spirit of his 20th year motto, “Giving is the new Achieving,” Hassan Sheheryar Yasin brought together a collection titled ‘Sher,’ which paid homage to female empowerment in rural areas of Pakistan. To this end, Team HSY collaborated with the Anjuman-e-Khuddam-e-Rasul Allah (AKRA), a renowned community based NGO in Shergarh, which is working towards improving education and poverty alleviation. HSY showcased an elegant beautiful collection with a subtle colour palette imbued with conrtasting colours. The stunning long and short gowns with palazzos were a delight to watch. HSY pulled off a fabulous tribute to Pakistan and was met with immense applause and appreciation.
Indeed, Pakistan – and the fashion industry – is a place of diversity, talent and an insatiable thirst to excel!
