Pesky razor burn is bad enough when no one can see it. But as we begin to bare more as the temperature rises, those red bumps are more than merely irritating; they’re also unsightly. So how do we deal with the red bumps caused by hastily shaving (when we sorta wish we had just embraced our hairy legs instead of looking like the victims of a bad run in with a rash)? We start here with these easy, inexpensive and effective DIY remedies for razor burn!
3 DIY Razor Burn Remedies
Cucumber & Yogurt Mask. Blend ½ of a cucumber (peeled) with 1 tablespoon of full-fat Greek yogurt in a food processor or blender. Apply the mixture to the red, irritated skin and let it sit for 15-20 minutes before rinsing with warm water. The cucumber is both hydrating and has anti-inflammatory properties while the yogurt’s fat moisturizes as the lactic acid helps to gently exfoliate the skin.
Tea & Coconut Compress. Steep 1 black tea bag in hot water until thoroughly moist. Remove the tea bag from the water and, over a small bowl, squeeze the water out of the tea bag in order to collect the highly concentrated tea. Stir in 1 teaspoon of coconut water. Use cotton pads to gently press the tea and coconut oil mixture on irritated skin. The black tea, rich in tannic acid, will reduce redness and inflammation while the coconut oil, with its antibacterial and antifungal properties, will help moisturize and heal.
Tea Tree & Olive Oil Balm. Mix 2-3 drops of tea tree oil into 1 tablespoon of olive oil and massage into skin irritated by razor burn. The tea tree oil has antiseptic and antifungal properties (although it can irritate skin when not diluted in another oil) and the olive oil will moisturize.
