ATC issues arrest warrants of Musharraf in Lal Masjid case

ISLAMABAD – Islamabad Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) issued bailable arrest warrants of former president Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf to Karachi Police in Lal Masjid case.

The ATC on Friday issued the arrest warrants of Pervez Musharraf to Karachi police in the murder case of Lal Masjid cleric Ghazi Abdul Rasheed for not appearing before the court. Meanwhile, Aabpara police have received surety bonds worth Rs1 lakh for Pervez Musharraf.

The next hearing for the Abdul Rashid Ghazi murder case will take place on April 02. The counsel of former president had previously questioned the jurisdiction of the court as a case regarding Lal Masjid is already pending in the Supreme Court. He had also requested exemption from appearing in court for this case.

Musharraf faces a string of court cases dating back to his 1999-2008 rule, including over the death of Abdul Rashid Ghazi, one of more than 100 people killed after Pakistani troops stormed the Lal Masjid in Islamabad on July 10, 2007.
