Former Pakistan speed demon Shoaib Akhtar came out denying the reports that he has tied the knot with a 17-year old teenager

Social media outlets and Pakistan print media went abuzz yesterday with reports of Shoaib about to marry 17 year old Rubab Khan, daughter of Haripur based businessman Mustaq Khan. The Express Tribune reported from Abbottabad that Shoaib was due a visit to Rawalpindi to finalize the details with his family members. Rubab, who hails from a family of three elder brothers and a younger sister, shot into sudden limelight following the news. The media reports even reported finalized dates for marriage related events citing the mehndi function scheduled on June 19, the rukhsati on the 20th at Bilawal Hall, Haripur and the valima to be arranged in Rawalpindi on the 22nd. Shoaib Akhtar has been in news in his chequered international career as much for his on-field exploits as controversies off it.

Akhtar, 39, however, has come out denying the reports today. He insisted that the reports were not only false, they were also malicious to the person and family in question, asking his 'friends in media' to have some restraint and not create news for the heck of it. Rubab, meanwhile is known to have little interest in cricket or Shoaib, having just appeared for her secondary school examinations last month. The only piece of confirmed news appears to be that the Mustaq's wife was requested to find a match for the speedster, when they met en-route their Hajj pilgrimage last year.
